What is causing my excessive sweating and anxiety during social situations? - #30714
Hello Doctor, I am a 20-year-old male. I would like to seek medical advice regarding excessive sweating and related symptoms that I have been experiencing for approximately 7 years. Main Complaint: I sweat significantly more than other people, even when the environment is comfortable and others are not sweating. The sweating mainly affects my face and head, but sometimes it can involve my whole body. The problem occurs even when I am alone and not physically active. I have noticed that the symptoms often become worse after masturbation. Associated Symptoms: When I am around other people or feel that someone is watching me, I become very nervous and self-conscious. My heart rate increases noticeably in these situations. My head and sometimes other parts of my body may tremble. I feel that my body movements become awkward or unnatural when people are looking at me, and I may have difficulty walking normally. These symptoms also tend to worsen after masturbation. Medical Information: Age: 20 years Height: Approximately 165 cm Weight: Usually between 55–60 kg Duration of symptoms: About 7 years Areas affected by sweating: Primarily the face and head; sometimes the entire body Current medication: Propranolol (taken occasionally for rapid heartbeat, nervousness, and related symptoms) Questions: I would like to know whether my symptoms could be related to: Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) Social anxiety or another anxiety disorder Thyroid dysfunction Hormonal imbalance A neurological condition Any other medical cause I would appreciate your recommendations regarding appropriate examinations, laboratory tests, diagnosis, and treatment options.
