does flax seeds increase weight - #22919

Raj

I am really curious about flax seeds and how they affect weight. I've been trying to eat healthy and incorporate more whole foods into my diet, but I heard that flax seeds might actually cause weight gain. Like, I read somewhere that consuming a lot of flax seeds can lead to this... and I'm just confused. I started adding them to my smoothies, thinking they’re a superfood, but now I'm like, does flax seeds increase weight? I mean, I feel like they do fill me up for longer, which is good, but I'm worried that all the calories and fat might somehow backfire. On the other hand, I thought healthy fats were supposed to be beneficial for weight management? My friend told me that they might help with digestion, which could be a good thing, right? But still, the question in my mind is, does flax seeds increase weight? I really don’t wanna pack on extra pounds while trying to eat better! Any experiences or advice from folks who have been in a similar boat would be super helpful! Don't want to end up buying bigger clothes!

Flax seeds themselves don’t directly cause weight gain; instead, they are nutritious and may even aid in weight management thanks to their high fiber content. Fiber can promote feelings of fullness, which can reduce overall calorie intake, aiding weight control in the long run. While it’s true that flax seeds contain fat, it’s primarily the good kind - omega-3 fatty acids, which actually support heart health and, in moderation, don’t typically lead to weight gain. Also, remember that flax seeds are calorie-dense, so moderation is key. If you consume large amounts excessively, the additional calories could contribute to weight gain, just like any other food when consumed in excess. Incorporating advisable portions, say a tablespoon or two daily in your smoothies, could enhance the nutritional profile of your diet without any significant risk of weight increase. Regarding digestion, your friend’s right - flax seeds are a boon. They can enhance bowel regularity due to their fiber, which is supportive of a healthy digestive system. If you’ve just started adding them into your diet, keep hydrated to help your body handle the extra fiber without issues like bloating or constipation. It’s always wise to monitor your body’s response to new foods, adjusting quantities as needed to align with your dietary goals. So, as long as flax seeds are consumed in a balanced manner as part of a varied, whole-foods diet, they shouldn’t disrupt your weight management goals. If you do notice unintended weight gain and suspect dietary changes might be at play, consider keeping a food diary and either consulting a nutritionist or adjusting your intake accordingly.
