curd rice benefits for skin - #27604

Aditi

I am super curious about something and I hope you all can help me. For the past few weeks, I've been hearing a lot about the curd rice benefits for skin, like seriously I've seen posts about it everywhere!! I mean, a friend of mine swears by it and says her skin has never looked better since she started eating it daily. It all started when I was complaining about some breakouts, and she suggested I should try this instead of just slathering on all those creams. I thought, how can a simple dish like curd rice be that good? I remember my grandmother used to make it all the time, but I never thought it had any skin benefits. Anyway, my skin has been really dry and dull lately, and I’m wondering if incorporating curd rice could actually help. What are the real curd rice benefits for skin after all? I've read it might have probiotics or something, but how does that even help? Are there any specific recipes or ways to prepare it that boost its skin benefits? And do I need to eat it every day for it to work, or is once a week alright? I dunno, I just wanna clear my skin without putting too many products on it, ya know? Would love to hear your thoughts on this!!

Doctors' responses

Curd rice, or yogurt mixed with rice, can indeed have certain benefits for your skin, largely due to its probiotic content. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that can support a healthy gut microbiome, which researchers are increasingly finding to be linked to various aspects of skin health. By potentially improving your gut health, you might notice improvements in your skin’s appearance and texture. This could help manage inflammation and possibly reduce the severity of breakouts, though it’s not a quick fix. It’s important to remember that skin health is influenced by many factors, including genetics, hormones, diet, and lifestyle habits, so curd rice alone won’t solve every skin problem.

To maximize any potential benefits, consider incorporating it as part of a balanced diet that includes a variety of nutrients. You could try it a few times a week initially and see if your skin responds positively, instead of feeling pressured to consume it daily. Make sure to prepare curd rice using fresh, unsweetened curd (or yogurt) for the best results. Some variations include adding turmeric or other spices known for their anti-inflammatory properties, but always do so in moderation.

Addressing your dry and dull skin specifically, stay hydrated and look into whether your diet includes enough healthy fats, which are essential for skin barrier function. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, like fish or flaxseeds, can be beneficial along with vitamin-rich fruits and vegetables. If persistent dryness or acne occurs, it would be prudent to explore potential underlying issues such as hormonal imbalances or skincare products that might be causing irritation. Consider consulting with a dermatologist if changes in diet and lifestyle don’t lead to improvement.
