eating curd everyday disadvantages - #27762

Muhammad

I am worried about my diet lately because I heard eating curd everyday might not be that great for everyone. I've love curd, like I literally eat it with every meal, you know? But then a friend mentioned some disadvantages of eating curd everyday that kinda got me thinking. For the past month or so, I noticed my stomach's been feeling a bit off after meals, like sometimes bloated or gassy, and I wonder if it's because of eating curd everyday. Also, my skin's been acting funny, breaking out more than usual, and I read somewhere that too much dairy can cause acne. I guess I just need to know, are there any real disadvantages of eating curd everyday that could explain what I’m experiencing? I mean, my family has always told me it's super healthy, right? But now I'm kind of doubting if eating curd everyday is actually good for me. Are there specific symptoms or health issues that can arise from it? Should I cut back or switch to something else, or is it one of those things that depends on the individual? Just really looking for some insights because I love my curd but don’t want to feel bad all the time!

Doctors' responses

Eating curd everyday has its benefits and disadvantages, and the effects can vary based on individual differences. From a nutritional perspective, curd is indeed a good source of calcium, protein, and probiotics, which can promote gut health. But it’s not always great for everyone or in all circumstances. The bloating and gas you mentioned might be a sign of lactose intolerance or sensitivity to dairy products, which is quite common. Even though curd is fermented and typically contains less lactose than milk, some individuals might find that their digestive systems still react. If you’ve noticed these symptoms appearing around the time you’ve increased your curd consumption, it might be worth experimenting with reducing your intake and observing any changes in how you feel. Regarding breakouts, while the evidence linking dairy to acne is not entirely conclusive, some people do find that reducing dairy intake, including curd, can help with skin issues. Hormones present in dairy can potentially influence oil production in the skin, contributing to acne for certain individuals. Yet, this isn’t a universal truth, and it doesn’t affect everyone the same way. It could be beneficial to temporarily cut back on curd for a couple of weeks to see if there’s any improvement in both the digestive symptoms and skin condition. If you decide to reduce your curd intake, explore non-dairy probiotic sources like kefir made from coconut or almond milk, or incorporate more fiber-rich foods to maintain your gut health. Listen to your body—if symptoms persist, consider seeking advice from a gastroenterologist or dermatologist to explore other underlying causes. Balancing your diet and being attentive to how different foods affect you is key. It’s about finding what works best for your individual health needs.
