benefits of drinking kismis water - #27854

Nisha

I am trying to figure out if there are legit benefits of drinking kismis water. Last month, I heard my aunt talking about it like it was magic or something, saying she drinks it every morning. I kinda laughed it off, but then I got curious. I’ve been feeling kinda low energy lately and stressed, ya know? Anyway, I decided to give it a shot. I started soaking some kismis (that's raisin for you non-desis) in water overnight and drinking the water in the morning. It tasted a little sweet and kinda nice. But I didn’t really notice a huge difference at first, just a slight energy boost maybe? But then my friend told me there are amazing benefits of drinking kismis water like improving digestion and even boosting immunity. Like, I read something about antioxidants too. Now, I’m wondering, are these claims legit? How long before I should expect to feel real benefits of drinking kismis water? Should I be drinking it daily or like, is it better occasionally? Also, what's the deal with its effects on skin? I've seen people claim it’s anti-aging?? I guess I just wanna know, is it worth the hype or should I go back to my regular water routine?

Doctors' responses

The idea of drinking kismis water, or raisin water, comes from traditional health practices and it’s known for several potential benefits, though these are generally mild and often subjective. Soaking raisins in water may help the release of some nutrients, making them more bioavailable. Raisins are an excellent source of antioxidants like polyphenols, which can support cellular health by reducing oxidative stress. This could theoretically contribute to an overall sense of wellbeing, though it’s not a substitute for a balanced diet or medical treatment.

The mild energy boost you might feel could be attributed to the natural sugars found in raisins, which provide quick energy. There’s some talk about improved digestion due to the fiber raisins contain, which might help with regularity. However, the claims about boosting immunity or having anti-aging effects should be taken with caution. While antioxidants are beneficial, drinking raisin water alone isn’t likely to produce significant changes in skin aging or immune function.

In terms of daily consumption, it’s generally safe to drink raisin water daily if you enjoy it and feel it complements your dietary needs. However, don’t expect it to replace more comprehensive health interventions or lifestyle changes. It’s important to maintain a balanced diet and exercise regularly for overall health benefits. If you’re really interested in exploring the potential effects over time, it won’t hurt to try it for a few weeks and see if it becomes a beneficial part of your routine. Always balance new additions with other healthful practices. If you have specific dietary restrictions or health conditions, it may be wise to consult with a healthcare professional before making significant changes to your regimen.
