benefits of kismis soaked in water - #27975

Palak

I am really confused about something and hope you all can help me out. Lately, I’ve been hearing a ton about the benefits of kismis soaked in water, and honestly, I’m torn. A few weeks ago, my aunt mentioned how she’s been soaking kismis in water every night and drinking it in the morning. She swears it helps with digestion and gives her this energy boost! I started doing it too, but I honestly can’t tell much difference yet. The other day I was kinda not feeling great, just super sluggish and bloated after dinner, and I thought maybe I was missing out on the benefits of kismis soaked in water? Maybe I’m not soaking them long enough, or the water temp is wrong? I don’t know! I also read somewhere online that it can have benefits for skin health and reducing acidity or somthing. Is it true? Like, does that mean I should be drinking it every day? Are there any specific benefits of kismis soaked in water that I should be aware of? I’m worried I’m just wasting my time with this whole thing if it’s not really doing anything. Any advice from your experiences with the benefits of kismis soaked in water would really help! Thanks!

Soaking kismis, or raisins, in water can indeed have some potential health benefits, though it’s worth keeping expectations in check and not relying solely on this practice for major health improvements. When raisins are soaked, the water may act as a solvent, causing some of the nutrients and beneficial plant compounds like antioxidants to enter the water, which you then consume. Digestive benefits are one of the most commonly mentioned, largely because raisins contain fiber, potentially helping with regularity. However, if you’re dealing with ongoing sluggishness or bloating, it’s important to ensure you’re addressing other aspects of your diet and lifestyle too—like hydration, balanced meals, and regular exercise—which can all profoundly impact digestion.

In terms of skin health, antioxidants found in raisins (phenolic compounds) play a role in reducing oxidative stress, which could influence skin condition. However, this influence is generally part of a larger dietary pattern full of antioxidant-rich foods. Simply expecting a discernable change in skin health from this alone might not be realistic. As for reducing acidity, the practice of using soaked raisins may theoretically help due to them being alkaline-forming after digestion. But, again, overall dietary habits play a more critical role in managing acidity-related issues.

You generally want to soak them overnight, roughly 6-8 hours, in room-temperature water; there’s little evidence suggesting specific soaking conditions like precise water temperature will dramatically alter the benefits. If you think there’s even a slight sensitivity or symptom arising each time you consume the water, take note and consider stopping or modifying the routine. Encounters with persistent digestive issues or unexplained continuous sluggishness should prompt a consultation with a healthcare professional, particularly if they interfere significantly with everyday life. Ultimately, while soaking raisins can be a beneficial addition to an overall healthy diet, it should be just one part of a broader lifestyle approach.
