It’s possible that your lower back pain after using a menstrual cup could be due to several factors. One possibility is that the menstrual cup might be incorrectly positioned. If the cup is improperly placed, it might exert some pressure on surrounding structures like the pelvic ligaments or nerves, potentially leading to discomfort or pain. Before trying again, ensure that the cup is fully unfolded and seated in a position that creates a seal above the vagina. You might need to experiment a little with positioning to see if a slightly different angle or height helps. Another possibility is that the menstrual cup you’ve chosen isn’t an optimal fit for your anatomy. Cups come in various sizes and firmness; sometimes a cup that’s too firm or too large for your cervix can cause pressure or discomfort. If feasible, consider trying a softer or smaller cup. Some brands offer guidance on choosing the right fit based on flow and comfort needs. If pain continues or worsens despite adjusting positioning, it would be wise to stop using the cup and consult with a healthcare provider, especially if new symptoms like severe cramping, heavy bleeding, or dizziness appear. They can rule out any anatomical concerns or other underlying issues like pelvic inflammatory disease or endometriosis which may be contributing to your symptoms. Meanwhile, for temporary relief of lower back pain, gentle stretching exercises or using a heating pad might help ease discomfort. Trying different methods like changing menstrual products until you find one that works for you and doesn’t worsen your symptoms is crucial as well.
