Sperm made contact with the vagina - #15018
After my boyfriend finished he switched condoms where some sperm was also left off at his penis. However the second condom was put the wrong way and he flipped it and kept going for a few seconds after that he switched condoms. I am three days after my period and my usual cycle is 40 days. Should i be worried?

Hello Maria By going through your history and evaluation of your health status I must say that It sounds like you’re feeling a bit anxious about the situation, which is completely understandable. When it comes to condom use, it’s important to ensure they’re put on correctly to reduce the risk of pregnancy and STIs. Here’s what you should consider: - *Sperm Exposure:If there was sperm on his penis before putting on the second condom, there’s a slight risk of pregnancy, especially if it was not applied correctly. - *Timing in Cycle: Since you mentioned you’re three days after your period and have a 40-day cycle, you’re likely in the early part of your cycle, which is generally less fertile So chances of pregnancy is very rare . Investigations - ( just to make your doubt clear) Beta HCG blood Urine pregnancy test
Thank you
Hello Maria,
🛑The risk of pregnancy in your situation is low because:
You were only 3 days after your period in a 40-day cycle (not your fertile window).
Contact was brief, and only a small amount of sperm might have touched the condom.
However, there’s still a small chance because the condom was flipped after touching semen.
🛑So to make sure please do a urine pregnancy test in 3 weeks
I trust this helps If you have more doubts, feel free to reply
Thank you
There is a small risk of pregnancy because flipping a condom after ejaculation can transfer sperm to the inside surface. Since you are only 3 days after your period and have a 40-day cycle, the chance is lower but not zero. To be safe, consider emergency contraception within 72–120 hours and consult a gynecologist or family planning clinic for guidance and future protection options.
Hello Maria, I understand your worry. As it has been 3 days since you have missed your period, I advise you to do a Urine Pregnancy Test and see what the results are.
According you what you explained, there is less chances of getting pregnant, but still there are chances. So you should do a UPT.
Feel free to reach out again.

If this activity occurred during a time when you typically would be less fertile, such as right after your period, the chances of pregnancy are generally lower, particularly if your cycle is longer at around 40 days. Typically, ovulation in such a cycle could occur approximately 20-21 days from the start of your last period. Nonetheless, sperm can potentially live inside the female reproductive tract for up to five days. What you described does pose a small risk of pregnancy because when a condom is used incorrectly—like being flipped over after it has already made contact with the penis that had exposure to semen—semen can unintentionally be transferred to the vagina.
Given the circumstances, it’s important to make a informed decision about emergency contraception, which is most effective the sooner it’s taken after the intercourse—ideally within 72 hours. You might consider using the morning-after pill as a precaution. Keep in mind, that you typically can purchase this type of medication over-the-counter at most pharmacies. Look at your comfort level and other potential contraceptive choices going forward to prevent similar worries in the future. If you find yourself troubled or unsure, discussing your situation with a healthcare professional will provide personalized guidance. Also, observe any unusual signs, as they may offer additional clues, and consult a doctor if needed for more tailored advice.
Hello Maria,
Based on your description, the risk of pregnancy is very low since you are just three days after your period and sperm exposure was minimal and indirect. However, if your periods are irregular or you want complete peace of mind, consider a pregnancy test after 2–3 weeks or consult a gynecologist for further advice.

The chance of pregnancy in this situation is low, especially since you were only 3 days after your period and have a long, 40-day cycle, which means you are likely far from ovulation. However, because the condom was briefly flipped after contact with semen, there is still a small risk, so you may consider emergency contraception if it’s within the recommended time frame, or take a pregnancy test 3 weeks after the incident for reassurance. If you feel anxious or unsure about your cycle or contraception, please speak with a gynecologist or sexual health specialist for personalized guidance.
